Eco-Friendly School Supplies from Green Apple Supply! Review & Giveaway

I am not the “greenest” person, but I try. I recycle, try to buy green cleaning products when possible, and have cut down on using bottled water. There is another way to be green everyday that I never even thought about. Office and School supplies!! Did you know there are Eco-friendly pens, crayons, paint, and various other supply items?

I was given the opportunity to work with Green Apple Supply and test out some of their Eco-friendly school supplies. Green Apple Supply is your source for Eco-friendly School, Home, and Office supplies. They have everything from pencils, cleaning supplies, dishes, toys, and everything in between.

Founded by an Evergreen, Colorado mom to make eco-friendly school and home supplies available at mass market prices, GreenAppleSupply.com helps parents save the planet and keep some “green” in their wallets. This non-profit online store offers consumers deep discounts on a wide range of green items.

This is perfect since both of my kids are going back to school this week. My 2 year old is starting preschool and my 9 year old is entering the 4th grade! I called my son and asked him what he needed for school and he said nothing, so I ended up getting supplies for my toddler. There were so many items to choose from, but since she is in preschool she mainly needed art supplies.

The first thing I noticed upon searching the site is the prices. They are very budget friendly. A lot of Eco-friendly items can be on the pricey side and I was happy to see that these aren’t. Back to school shopping is expensive, especially if you have multiple kids. It’s nice to see that Green Apple Supply keeps their prices low, so people can afford to be Eco-Friendly.

I ended up getting a Panda Ecozoo backpack, Markers, Crayons, Colored pencils, finger/water color paint, and a doodling pad (not pictured). Our items shipped quickly and arrived in a recycled, eco-friendly box.

E-color-gy Washable Markers – These non-toxic markers are made form 25% recycled plastic. They work like a charm and the colors are vibrant.

Prang Soybean Crayons – These crayons are made from a soybean oil formulation, 100% renewable resources, no paraffin wax, and are non-toxic. The Prang crayons surprised me with how nicely they colored. Coloring was smooth, the colors were vibrant, and they didn’t break when coloring. I actually like them more then the leading brand of crayons you can find at your local store.

Faber-Castell Grip Colored Pencils – The colored pencils came with a sharpener which was a nice bonus. They are made from reforested wood. The triangular design is nice for my daughters little hands to grip the pencils. The colors are vibrant and coloring is smooth.

Glob Paint Kit – These paints are all natural. The paints are pigments that you mix with water to create the paint. You can add more or less water depending on what kind of paint you want to create. (Finger, water color, or tempra.) The colors are bright and went onto paper smoothly. They also had really nice scents. The label says they can stain since they are all natural and I actually freaked out when my toddler splattered Pomegranate paint all over the wall. I applied a baking soda/water paste to it and the color came off the walls with no issue. I also really like the bamboo paint brush. The handle is a sustainable bamboo handle with cruelty-free taklon bristles and ferrule made from aluminum. It’s the perfect size for my toddlers hands and she LOVED painting. I think this was her favorite item. The kit comes with little cups to mix the pain in and it also has lids so you can save left over paint for later use. I also liked that the paint kit came with directions for other items you could use the pigments for, like play dough. I haven’t tried it yet, but I play on doing it in the near future.

Faber-Castell Doodling Pad – Made from 50 percent post-consumer recycled materials. The pad is perfect for colored pencils or crayons. I wouldn’t use markers or paint since the paper isn’t the thickest and I’m sure it would just get wet and tear. I love the smaller size of the pad. It’s perfect for putting in my daughters backpack so she can color when we travel or are on the go. The paper comes in multiple colors and is on the thinner side, but I expected that since it is from recycled materials. We didn’t have any issues with tearing, which was nice.

Ecozoo Panda BackPack – This cute panda backpack is made from natural cotton, non-toxic dyes, and recycled materials. It’s lightweight, durable, and very cute. My daughter loves walking around with her new “pack pack”. It’s not big enough to hold multiple text books and binders, but it’s perfect for preschool, kindergarten, and other grades where all they have is a lunch box, homework folder, and some papers.

I’m very happy with all of the items Green Apple Supply sent us and look forward to using them again next year for our back to school shopping. Everything is eco-friendly, prices are affordable, made in the USA, and the supplies are good quality. I like these supplies more then the big names you can buy at your local store.

Did I mention they are a Colorado based company? That’s a Bonus in my book!

Students, teachers, schools or PTAs can even upload class supply lists to set up custom links for made-to-order school supply packs. Green Apple Supply will ship packages to the school before classes start and can also work with the school to add a per-product percentage as a fundraiser. It’s an all around great company and I am thrilled to work with them!
