How I Tackle Holiday Shopping for the Kids! #ChosenByKids

Can you guys believe the Holidays are here because I can’t. This year has just flown by and it’s my favorite time of year. With 3 kids to shop for I like to make sure I’m getting the best deal while checking off the kids wish lists. Every year their lists are always a mile long (especially our 4 year old) so I have to go through and pick out which items I’ll be getting, hunt them down, and make sure I am getting the best deal possible.

One of the ways I save money is by shopping at Walmart. They almost always have the best price for Holiday toys and if for some reason they don’t have the lowest price then I’ll just have them price match a competitor to get the best deal. Walmart is also great because their top Holiday toys are chosen by kids and they all end up being toys my kids want, like this years hot toys from Just Play, Vtech, FisherPrice Little People, and so much more.

This weekend I’ll be attending an in store demo for some of the hottest toys this year where I’ll get to interact with the toys and test them out before buying them. I’m a see and feel type of person so I just love to attend demo’s where I can test a product before buying it. Walmart will be hosting toy demo’s across the country at various Walmart locations. How do you tackle your Holiday shopping and figure out what you’re going to buy? Here are my tips!

1. Let your kids pick out their favorite toys. Our kids use YouTube, TV Commercials, sale ads, and Holiday toy books to create their lists. Toy books are their favorite since they can circle everything they want and look at the pictures. Once they’re done we decided which items we’re going to buy.
2. Between sales, coupons, and rewards I determine the best price. You can get coupons for toys from coupons.com, Sunday coupon inserts, manufacturer websites, and even emailing companies and asking for them. I combine coupons with sales for maximum savings.
3. The earlier the better. Start your shopping as early as you can. You’ll beat the crowds and have a better chance of getting that “hot” toy your kid really wants. Not only that but hopefully that means you’ll be done earlier and while everyone else is out in the crowds you can be at home relaxing with the family.
4. Make a budget and stick to it. Figure out what you’re going to get the kids, what it’s going to cost, and how much you’re willing to spend. Make a list before going to the store and stay focused. It can be hard once you start shopping and you see more items in the store you think your kids will like and before you know it you have tons of gifts and no money.
5. Less is more. Last year we did a smaller Christmas because I was busy and tired from taking care of a newborn. I noticed that the kids enjoyed their gifts a lot more then when I go insane and buy the whole store. Get 1 or 2 big items that your child wants and mix in some smaller items and call it a day. It can be overwhelming having a whole toy store sitting under the tree and after a few days a lot of those toys don’t even get played with anymore. Not only will your wallet thank you, but your kids will enjoy their gifts more and there will be less chance that items are forgotten about and ignored.
