We recently moved into a new home and went back to school. It’s been crazy around here and then the kids got hit with a nasty virus right before school started. Since we’re still working on unpacking I had no idea where any of our medicines were and had to run to the store because the kids have fevers, upset tummies, and were overall just not feeling well. Talk about being unprepared. There’s nothing worse than having sick kids and not having the “tools” to treat them and help them feel better.
I had to run to Target, which is the closest store to our house, and pick up all of our sick supplies like a thermometer, Children’s TYLENOL®, drinks, crackers, and popsicles. While I was there I also stocked up on supplies for me. My knee tends to act up when it’s cold and at other random times. I rely on Extra Strength TYLENOL® TYLENOL® PM and TYLENOL® 8 HR Muscle Aches & Pain to help with the pain. At the end of the day it can be really throbbing so I’ll take some Extra Strength TYLENOL® TYLENOL® PM to help me get some sleep and relieve the pain. The combo help to keep me active with the kids.
For the kids I set them up with crackers, Children’s TYLENOL® (per the recommended dosage for their ages), and lots of fluids. When they’re sick it usually involves lots of snuggles and naps in moms bed until they’re feeling better. The kids spent a lot of time last year sick so I’m really hoping we can avoid that this year. We’re stocked up on vitamins and they enjoy some Vitamin C packed popsicles to help boost their immune systems, but sick happens and I like to be prepared. Here’s what’s in my “sick kit” for when the sickness hits our home:
- Children’s TYLENOL® – for fevers and aches and pains
- Ice Packs – to help cool them when a fever strikes
- Crackers – to keep food in their upset tummies
- Electrolyte drinks – to help keep them hydrated
- Thermometer – to check for fevers
- Tissue – for runny noses
- Hand Sanitizer – so I don’t get sick and hopefully it doesn’t spread
- Popsicles – because the kids love them when they’re sick
Get positively prepared with the right pain relief for you and your family at Target.
How are you stay prepared for when your kids get sick? What are must have “sick items” in your home?

I don't have a sick box but I love the idea. I need to put one together.

This is a great idea and one that we need to do for the coming fall and winter months.

I love that you have a “sick kit” and you've inspired me to get one too! With cooler temperatures coming it would be nice to be prepared for the inevitable sniffles. I thought it was wise to get pain meds to keep you going as well. Thanks for a very helpful post!

I have to have my sick box ready for the kids when they get sick. Tylenol is a good product that kids can take and really helps with the colds not being so bad!
