This post brought to you in a collaboration with Visionworks and their Let’s Go See Campaign to bring Children in need free eye exams and glasses. #Visionworks #LetsGoSee
Right before our son turned 3 he was evaluated for a speech delay. During his evaluation they did a quick eye exam and informed me that the scanner picked something up and I needed to take him in for a full eye exam. After many phone calls I found a wonderful optometrist who examined him and confirmed that he has astigmatism and would need glasses. Since he was barely 3 at the time we decided to wait a year to have him wear glasses. Since he was so young the Dr explained that he probably wasn’t being affected by it too much, but that as he got older it would start to pose a problem and glasses would be needed. Well the year is coming up and I’m getting ready to schedule another eye exam for him and see if the Dr thinks he’s ready for glasses. I am so thankful for that speech evaluation and the quick eye exam that they did because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t know that he has an issue with his eyes. I’m also very thankful that we have insurance that will cover all his vision needs, but I know that isn’t the case for everyone. There was a point in my life when I was a single parent and I didn’t have vision insurance. There was no way I would have been able to cover the cost of an exam or glasses if my oldest had needed them.
Luckily there are wonderful companies out there who try and help those in need to get their kids vision exams and glasses like Visionworks and Davis Vision. I visited Visionworks last year for an eye exam and found out I needed glasses. My prescription is minimal, but it makes so much of a difference and I now understand the importance of making sure you have glasses and the correct prescription.
Visionworks and Davis Vision’s Let’s Go See campaign is a national movement to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine. Between dental checkups, doctor’s exams, and everything else we do to keep our kids healthy, it&’s easy to forget about our children’s vision. Many parents wait until their child has expressed an issue with their vision before taking them for an eye exam, but according to Prevent Blindness America, 1 in 4 school-aged children in the United States have a vision problem, which if left untreated can affect learning ability, personality, and adjustments in school.
Now in the program’s third annual year, Visionworks and Davis Vision are donating 15,000 comprehensive eye exams and complete pairs of glasses to children in need. Their goal is single-focused: they want children to get annual eye exams. Every child. Every year. They’re giving out vouchers good for a free eye exam and glasses. If you don’t have vision insurance or Medicaid,
aren’t signed up for ACA, and can’t afford an eye exam and glasses, or if you know of a school or organization that has children who could benefit, apply for a free voucher by nominating them at letsgosee.net. The eye exams and glasses are available through the use of a voucher, redeemable for a comprehensive eye exam as well as a pair of $69.95 children’s frames with polycarbonate lenses.
What are you waiting for? Nominate a child, school, or organization to receive a free vision exam and eye glasses!
