Orbit Baby sent me a G2 Infant Car Seat for Review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own!
The Orbit Baby G2 infant car seat is an innovative infant car seat with state-of-the-art safety features as well as mom and dad friendly features. I first learned about the Orbit Baby G2 car seat at a safety conference I attended earlier this year. I was in the early weeks of my pregnancy and it worked out nicely that a bunch of car seat brands were there showing off their car seats. This gave me the opportunity to see what was new on the market and get an idea of what I wanted for our little one on the way. When I walked passed the Orbit Baby booth I was quickly drawn in. Their G2 car seat looks so different from other infant car seats on the market and after watching the demo they put on I knew I wanted one.
I’m slowly learning that after market products for car seats aren’t recommended and I’m glad that Orbit Baby thought of the little things when making this car seat. It comes with a built in, but removable, infant head-hugger insert, neck straps, belly protector, and an optional Lower Birth Weight Fit Kit can be added to properly position smaller newborns in the car seat. There’s also a built in sunshade that I really like. When not being used it rolls up nicely into the canopy and you don’t even notice it’s there. Since we live in Colorado this is perfect. It helps protect baby from the hot sun and rain in the summer and snow in the winter and it still has a small opening on the side so baby is getting proper ventilation.
The Orbit Baby G2 Infant seat comes with a base that is easy to install, but you can also use the seat without the base and that is a must for us with all the traveling we do. The base is on the heavy side, which makes not having to travel with it a nice perk since the G2 infant seat is approved for use without the base (seat belt only). The secure base can be installed in under 60 seconds just by turning the patented StrongArm knob. The StrongArm mechanism pulls the seat belt tight for you so you don’t have to fight and struggle with your car seat to get a tight, safe fit. The microfiber fabric is super soft, machine washable, and certified green. It’s the first car seat with fabrics certified safe by Oeko-Tex Standard 100, ensuring they are healthier for your baby and better for the environment and it has safe flame retardants: Orbit Baby car seats meets all applicable flame retardancy standards without the potentially harmful chemicals, like PBBs and PBDEs, used in most other car seats.
Some other great features include:
- SmartHub™ safety ring provides 360-degree security in the car
- 5-point harness and infant insert
- The base’s aerospace-grade aluminum backbone provides unparalleled strength
- LATCH optimized, can also be installed with vehicle seat belts
- Meets or exceeds all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
-
The safety indicator on the side of the base visually alerts parents when the infant car seat is positioned properly and safely locked in the rear-facing position — by changing from red to clear.
My last FAVORITE feature of this infant car seat is that you can rotate the car seat so baby can face you when getting in and out of the car and that you can dock the seat from nearly any angle in your vehicle. I think we all know what a pain it can be to get baby in and out of their seat and having to maneuver and rotate our bodies into funny positions doing so, but there is no more leaning over, twisting, or other awkward positions to get baby in and out of their seat. Just rotate the seat to face you and easily put baby in and out of the car seat.
The Orbit Baby G2 Infant Car Seat is compatible with their G2 Stroller frame. Combined baby will be rolling around in style and this makes one state-of-the-art travel system! The car seat accommodates children from 4 to 30 pounds and 19 to 32 inches. Available at select retailers, OribitBaby.com, and Amazon.com!

Do you still have this seat? I was asked to make a "customized" grip and cover for a friend as a surprise gift but I can't get any measurements online. I was wondering if you could tell me: the length and width of the handle grip; width of seat at the feet, center, and peak of canopy; length of seat, (not base) from back up and over canopy and down to the front at the adjustment pull-tab?
Thank you for your time!

Hi there. Do you know if they have improved safety concerns on this? In 2009, the carseat detached from the base a few times in a Consumer Reports test in a 30 mile/hour test crash. Love the carseat in general, but can't find any new safety info. Thanks!

I love the look of this one! I wonder though when you go to walmart or target does it sit easily on the basket and lock or does it have to sit in the basket?

No, It wouldn't lock onto the top of the basket on a shopping cart, but car seats should never sit on the top of a basket because they are a tipping hazard. They can tip over and baby can be seriously injured. They should always go inside the basket...
