I recently learned that SUBWAY® restaurants located in the USA & Canada are joining forces with several charities to give back to the local community. For Denver they’re partnering with the Special Olympics Colorado which I think is a great charity to support. The Special Olympics Colorado helps over 15,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities living in the state of Colorado. They help to give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
In Colorado the Special Olympics helps to serve:
- 16,000+ Athletes
- 153 Schools
- 9,000+ Volunteers
- 2,500+ Coaches
- 1,200+ Law Enforcement
The Special Olympics Colorado helps to Build Inclusive Schools, Develop Leaders, Build & Strengthen Communities, Promote Self-Sufficiency, and Improve Health and Quality of Life. They help young children who are impacted by socialization and they know the program is working based on these numbers:
- 78% of typically developing youth report that their attitudes toward bullying have changed
- 75% increase in school involvement among those with intellectual disabilities
- 84% of all students report the program is life-changing
From now through August 31st, more than 1,200 local SUBWAY® restaurants are participating in the “You Share. We Share.” campaign to help support different charities. The “You Share. We Share” campaign encourages the community to get out and share their weekends with SUBWAY® restaurants, and SUBWAY® will share right back by donating a percentage of weekend sales, up to $100,000, directly to a local charity in need. As locally owned and operated franchises, SUBWAY® is excited to be able to further its commitment to the local community.
I want to encourage all you Denver readers to go eat a delicious subway sandwich at a locally owned and operated SUBWAY® Restaurants franchise this summer in support of Special Olympics Colorado. Not only will you be helping to give to a great charity, but you’ll be enjoying a tasty sandwich in the process. You can visit Special Olympics Colorado on Facebook // Twitter // and via their Website.
