Let’s get started making our super easy American flag sugar cookies!
American Flag Sugar Cookies Ingredients:
- 1 16.5 oz package refrigerated sugar cookie dough
- 3 tablespoon red, white & blue sprinkles
- 1 tub vanilla frosting
- 3 oz dark blue candy melts
- 3 oz red candy melts
- 40-60 star sprinkles
How to Make Flag Sugar Cookies Bars
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line the bottom and sides of an 8×8’ baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
Break up cookie dough into a medium bowl. Add red, white, and blue sprinkles and mix until combined.
Spread the cookie dough in an even layer on the parchment lined baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until dough is set. Allow the cookie to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Once the cookie is completely cooled, frost the top with the vanilla frosting. Cut the frosted cookie into 12 pieces by making three cuts horizontally and two cuts vertically.
Melt the dark blue candy melts according to package instructions and transfer to a piping bag. Cut the tip of the piping bag to create a small opening. Pipe a square in the top left corner of each cookie square.
Immediately add 3-5 star sprinkles to the blue square.
Melt the red candy melts according to package instructions and transfer it to a piping bag. Cut the tip of the piping bag to create a small opening. Pipe horizontal lines to create the red stripes for the flag.
Allow candy melts and frosting to set before serving
Sugar Cookie Bar Tips:
If the blue candy melts set too quickly before adding the star sprinkles pipe a small dot of candy melts to the back of the sprinkle to help it adhere.
Cookies can be stored in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to five days.
You can substitute sugar cookie dough for another cookie dough, like chocolate chip.
