Firecracker crackers go by a few names like Alabama fire crackers or hot cracker recipe and it’s traditionally made with just saltine crackers, but we’re giving this classic snack a new twist with a mix of different crackers.
Variations for Firecracker Snack Mix Addins
Hot Sauce – Add 1-2 teaspoons of hot sauce to give it an extra kick.
Nuts – Add your favorite nuts to elevate this snack mix
Butter – You can substitute the oil for melted butter.
Crackers – Use whatever crackers you like to this mix. Goldfish, Club Crackers, Wheat Crackers, Rye Chips, Bagel Chips, Pita Crackers, and so much more!
Parmesan – You could add some shredded parmesan cheese to give these crackers a cheesy taste. If using cheese you’ll want to bake. Or you can add parmesan crisps or crackers.
Cereal – Add cereal like different types of Chex or Cheerios.

Crackers – Ritz crackers or other butter crackers, mini pretzels, Cheez-It crackers or any cheddar cheese crackers, and oyster crackers.
Vegetable oil – but you could use butter, canola, or olive oil.
Ranch Seasoning Mix – You need to use a packet of seasoning mix, not the already-made dressing.
Spices – Crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper
How to Make Firecracker Snack Mix
Preheat oven to 250 degrees
Place all crackers and pretzels into a large mixing bowl or for easier cleanup pour everything into a Ziploc bag.
Mix oil and seasonings
Pour seasoning mix over the crackers
Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
Bake for 10 minutes
Stir and bake for 5 more minutes
Allow to cool before serving
Store in an air-tight container
Tips for Making Firecracker Snack Mix
Pair with a cool dip like ranch dressing or cucumber dip.
For less heat, decrease the amount of crushed red pepper flakes. Or increase the amount for a more fiery snack.
For a no-bake version, simply allow the crackers to sit covered for at least 4 hours or overnight, stirring occasionally.

- 2 sleeves of Ritz crackers / butter crackers
- 3 cups mini pretzels
- 2 cups Cheez-It crackers / cheddar cheese crackers
- 2 cups oyster crackers
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 3 Tbsp (1 1oz packet) ranch seasoning mix
- 2 ½ Tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions

This was very good and addictive. I only used 3/4 cup oil and my cracker mix was slightly different, I baked 30 minutes, stirring every 10. Everyone who has tried this loves it! Thank you.
