How to Make Halloween Candy Rice Krispie Treats
Let’s get started on our Halloween Rice Krispie Treats! Here is what you’ll need:
- Butter
- Rice Krispies
- Marshmallows
- Vanilla extract
- Salt
- Halloween M&M’s
- Candy corn
- Mini pretzel twists
- Sprinkles
How to Make Halloween Rice Krispie Treats
Lightly grease the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper. The cooking spray will help keep the parchment paper in place when pouring the Rice Krispie mixture in and will also make it easier to remove the treats when they are ready to cut.
Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.
Separate 1 1/2 cups of marshmallows and set it aside to mix in later. Add the rest of the marshmallows to the pot with the melted butter and continue to melt on low heat, stirring constantly until you get a smooth consistency.
Remove the pot from the heat and then stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, mini marshmallows, mini pretzel twists, M&M’s, candy corn, and sprinkles until evenly combined.
Gently spread the Rice Krispies mixture into an even layer in the baking pan with a rubber spatula. Do not press it in together too firmly otherwise you will end up with hard treats.
Melt the candy wafers in a piping bag on a low or defrost setting until fully melted. Massage the bag every 30 seconds to ensure even heating.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes before snipping a small piece of the tip and drizzling over the prepared Rice Krispie treats. Immediately top with additional toppings such as more M&M’s, pretzels, candy corn, and sprinkles if desired.
Allow it to cool on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares. Enjoy!
How to Store Rice Krispie Treats
Rice Krispie treats are best eaten the same day but you can store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days. I do not recommend refrigerating as they will harden.
Tips and Tricks for making Halloween Rice Krispie Treats
You can use another cereal such as cocoa krispies, cocoa pebbles, or even cornflakes instead of regular rice krispies, if desired.
Any color and variety of M&M’s will work. I opted for their “Ghoul’s Mix Milk Chocolate M&M’s”.
You can use pretzel twists, sticks, snaps, crisps, waffles, etc. Keep the pretzels whole or break them into smaller pieces.
The pretzels help to balance out the sweetness from the candy but you can opt to replace it with the same amount of rice krispies cereal and just add another ⅛ teaspoon of salt if desired.
