Heat Transfer Warehouse invited me to take part in a garment challenge where the theme is mental health. Good mental health and mental health awareness is so important to spread so of course I had to take part in this challenge.

The Rules were simple:
- Mental Health Theme
- Use at least 3 materials out of the 8 they sent.
- Be Creative and Have Fun.
There were a few other ones like sending the finished pictures by a certain date and posting on a certain date, but the 3 listed above are the main ones. Heat Transfer Warehouse sent a variety of HTV materials like sparkle, puff, and metal from brands like Siser, Thermoflex, and WALAKut.
Mental Health Garment Challenge
Picking my garment decorations was a challenge because there are so many fun/cute ways to spread mental health awareness, but I decided on a simple “you are enough” design. I did go into Illustrator and deconstruct the design since it was grouped into one. I broke the words up so I could do different colors and pulled the heart out so I could turn that into rhinestones.
How I Made My Mental Health Shorts
For this project I used
- Siser Sparkle in Silver
- WALAKut Express in White
- WALAStones Heat Transfer Rhinestone
- Bella+Canvas shorts
First: Measure your garment when you want to place your design. I did my design 7.5″ wide.
Second: Cut Materials. When using HTV make sure to mirror your design.
When it came to cutting the rhinestones I had to cut those by hand. These cannot be cut with your cutting machine. I cut the heart into a small piece of HTV (do not mirror this). When it came to weeding I removed the excess material around the heart. Then I placed the heart on the back of the rhinestone sheet and cut around it. Press per the rhinestone pressing instructions.
Third: Lint roll clothing.
Fourth: Give your clothing item a quick press to get out any wrinkles and then press the design onto your clothing item per the material instructions. I press the material with the highest heat first which was the Siser Sparkle. Then I pressed the WALAKut Express. Lastly, I added the rhinestones.
