Ecce Panis Bread & Stuffed French Toast – #CBias #EasterMeals

Every year for Easter (#EasterMeals) I make my family a nice breakfast. The kids get up and find their baskets and while they play with all of their goodies I cook. This year will be no different, but I wanted to test out a new recipe and cook something other then eggs, potatoes, and bacon. Our family loves french toast so I decided to kick it up a little and tested out this lovely recipe.

I went to my local walmart and spotted Ecce Panis french bread. The Ecce Panis bread was with all of the bakery breads and is hand made so I knew I had to give this tasty looking bread a try!

I got everything I needed for this yummy meal and couldn’t wait until I could make it.

The Ecce Panis French Baquette came in a 2 pack and was just $1 and some change at walmart. Not only do I love a fresh loaf of bread, but I love a cheap loaf of fresh bread!

Berry Stuffed French Toast Recipe:

What you’ll need:

1 loaf French Bread (or sourdough)
3 Tablespoons Strawberry Preserve or Jam
½ package Cream Cheese (4 Oz), Room Temperature
1½ cup berries (fresh or frozen. your choice of berries)
2 Eggs
Cinnamon
½ cups Milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 Tablespoons Butter
Sugar
Powdered Sugar (optional)
Syrup (also optional, I suggest a berry one)

Directions:

1. In a bowl or shallow dish mix together milk, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Use as much or as little cinnamon as you like. I usually add 3-4 good shakes.

2. Mix together cream cheese and strawberry preserve in a seperate bowl.

3. If you are using fresh berries sprinkle them with a little sugar and let them sit. (this bring out the juices and makes them sweeter). If you are using frozen berries then you will want to have them thawed out.

4. Slice french bread into 1 inch thick slices or thinner if you prefer.

5. Heat a skillet on medium heat and add butter. (I used cinnamon & sugar butter I had on hand, but you can use regular butter). Once skillet is hot and butter is melted coat french toast in milk mixture (make sure to coat bread very well) and immediately add to hot skillet.

6. Cook french toast on each side for a few minutes and until golden brown.

7. Remove french toast and add 1 tablespoon of cream cheese mixture to bread. Place another piece of french toast on top.

8. Sprinkle powdered sugar over french toast, add mixed berries on top, and drizzle strawberry syrup. (Syrup & Powdered Sugar are optional).

*You can also add mixed berries in with the cream cheese filling.

The Ecce Panis french baguette was perfect for my stuffed french toast. It was a fresh and great tasting bread. Not only is it good for french toast, but it was great warmed up and served with spinach dip. I can’t wait to eat some warmed up, fresh bread with my Easter ham!

(I can’t take credit for making this, but the hubby loved the bread with spinach dip and it makes a great appetizer!)
