FREE Waffles and Ice Cream at Safeway!

I stopped into safeway for a few items and I also wanted to use my $5 off new frozen items coupons. I had 2 of them and figured I could score some cheap or free items.

If you aren’t familiar with the coupons it’s a promotion safeway is running right now. If you spend $10 or more on frozen items on your shopping trip the register spits out a $5 coupon that you can use on a future purchase of their NEW frozen items. I roamed the frozen section for about 15 minutes looking for the BLUE tags of new items. The signs say there are over 200 items, but I saw maybe 10. The choices were slim pickings so I decided to use one coupon for waffles and the other on ice cream.

I got to the register and put the ice cream in my transaction with all the items I was buying. I made sure to read the coupon and pick out an item that had the BLUE tag for new items, but of course the register wouldn’t take it. The cashier had no clue how to handle the coupon and called a million people to help her, of course none of them came. Finally she decided to just enter it manually. My second transaction was for the waffles. She rang me up, I swipped my safeway card, and she scanned my coupon. The cashier then has the nerve to turn to her co-worker and say “Can you believe this? She is getting the waffles for FREE with this coupon! You can’t do that!!” Her co-worker shrugs her shoulders and says “Why not?”

I was already walking away with my stuff and I could see the cashier was pissed off and shacking her head, but what I don’t get is why? I read the coupon and it said $5 off your purchase of new frozen items. The waffles and ice cream had the  new blue tags and were on sale, so combined with the coupon they were free. I’m not sure why she was mad. The coupons only listed limitations were that it had to be used on NEW frozen items. There was also no spending limit listed.

I swear I always have the worst luck using coupons!!

2 for $5 with safeway card. Used $5 off coupon which = FREE!

Blue Bunny Ice Cream

on sale for 2 for $7 with safeway card. They had a peelie for $0.55 off ONE (I used 2 of them). Coupon doubled to $1 and combined with $5 coupon = FREE!

(This was a great deal! Blue bunny ice cream is normally $7 at safeway, so I got $14 worth of ice cream for free and if you have ever had blue bunny then you know it’s GOOD!)

*If you have $5 off new frozen items coupon make sure you get an item with a blue tag that says “new” and try to find something on sale and/or that you could combine with a manufacturer coupon so you could get it free or next to free!!
