iTikes Canvas

A few weeks ago my husband surprised me with a new iPad. As soon as we got home and started playing with them our toddler wanted to play as well. It was then that I knew MY iPad would also be her iPad, so I wanted to find some fun apps that she would be able to use. When I saw the iTikes Canvas I knew we had to have it. My toddler LOVES to color. She will spend all day coloring if I let her and every night she brings over her magnetic art board and we doodle.

The iTikes Canvas is the best of both worlds. My toddler can color with the iPad, but when I take it back over she can still use the magnetic board on it’s own. Setting up the Canvas was a piece of cake! Just take it out of the box and pop in some batteries (not included). The back of the canvas comes off so you can put your iPad in and then you put the back on again so the iPad doesn’t fall out. The app that goes with the canvas is free in the iTunes store and installed quickly. Once you open up the app your child can color, play games, and create pictures. Once they are done you can even save the pictures and share them via email, ect.

The Canvas has six colorful shapes on the sides and once you turn the canvas on you can push the shapes and they will appear on the iPad screen, on your child’s picture. They can either color on coloring pages or on a blank canvas and there is an assortment of colors and artist tools to choose from. When you’re done coloring you can use the crank to clean the board and color a fresh new picture. The magnetic board is pretty straight forward, just doodle and erase when done. I did find that the doodles on the magnetic board were on the faint side color wise and they tended to start disappearing after a few minutes. It’s as if the magnetic pieces inside aren’t sticking like they should. It doesn’t bother my toddler though and she loves to color on it, so who am I to complain?

Over all the iTikes Canvas is a great device for any child who loves to color. The app can be used without the iTikes Canvas and the Canvas can be used without the iPad. It’s a win/win device!
