Recaro Performance Sport Harness to Booster Car Seat!

Choosing a car seat for your precious little one is a big deal and can be a stressful decision. We all want what’s best for our kids and safety is at the top of the list. With the amount of time spent in a car I want a car seat that is not only comfortable for the toddler, but that will keep her safe in case anything was to happen on one of our outings. Now I don’t know about you, but a company that makes seats for airline, automobiles, and race cars with over 100 years of experience seems like a great company to make car seats since they know all about keeping people safe in vehicles.

We were sent the Performance Sport Harness to Booster Car Seat to try out. Upon opening the box and pulling out the seat I was impressed with the sleek, but sporty design the performance sport seat had. We received the seat in “Slate” and I am loving the neutral color scheme since it will match perfectly in both cars. The seat is a little on the big side and a tiny bit heavy, but it fit comfortably in our SUV and perfectly in our car. The size and weight aren’t an issue for me since once the seat is installed in a car it stays there and when we travel we have a light weight seat we take with us. If you plan on traveling with this seat the weight (28.3lbs) could be a bit much. The next thing that stuck out was the Comfort enhancing memory foam and ErgoShell structure. Both of these were designed with your little ones comfort in mind and they ensure that your little one gets the support they need while staying comfortable on whatever rides or trips you take. I know I don’t like sitting in a hard seat and I don’t expect my little ones to either so I like to look for seats that will be comfortable for them to ride in, but also keep them safe and the performance sport does just that. A few other things I liked on the seat are the mesh cup holders and built in strap cushions.

The HERO harness system is a new, exclusive and innovative safety feature by RECARO. HERO ensures the highest level of protection and comfort by positioning the shoulder pads to appropriately fit the child’s neck, head and shoulders while resisting harness twisting and ensuring proper chest clip positioning. The Performance SPORT includes the RECARO Safety Stripe System, which is a racing-inspired white stripe that is clearly visible on the outside edge of the five-point harness. This stripe is designed as an easy alert to parents that a twist could occur, or has begun, thus preventing a safety hazard. The EasyAdjust, five-point harness can be customized to properly fit your growing child. With its convenient lever lift, you can adjust the head rest into position to allow for proper alignment with the head without the hassle of rethreading any straps. One of my big issues with car seats is getting the straps twisted, not matter how hard I try not to they always end up getting twisted especially when you have to adjust the straps when your little one grows. The HERO harness system and EasyAdjust harness system are great additions to the seat and make life a little easier. I don’t have to worry about getting straps twisted or having to pull out the car seat and unthread the straps and then rethread them again when my little one grows.

Designed with a push-button LATCH system, the car seat is easy to secure to your vehicle. The car seat offers a universal top tether system as an added anchor. Whether using the car seat in harness or booster mode, the color-coded belt guides help you secure it properly. A convenient recline system allows you to adjust the car seat to custom fit the backseat of your vehicle. Some latch systems can be a pain to install, but the push-button latch system on the performance sport made installing the latch a breeze. The performance sport easily switches from harness to booster mode and the manual comes with step by step color picture directions that are not only easy to understand, but make switching a breeze.

The harness mode is great for kids who are between 20 – 90 lbs and 27 – 50 in while the booster mode is great for kids 30 – 120 lbs and 37 – 59 in. This seat is not to be used rear facing so it’s not a seat that can be used from birth up, but I love that once my little one is ready for a forward facing seat and 20lbs and 27 in long that they can use the performance sport and with a life of 6 years that should last until they are ready to get out of a car seat. The seat is certified for air travel when used in harness mode and with a plane’s seatbelt.
