Paper Plate Crafts: Hand Print Turkey! #elmersacademy

Elmer’s is a brand I’ve trusted since I was a kid and a brand I buy regularly for my kids. They’ve recently added some new items to their line of products with the newest addition being a glue pen and glue stick that are perfect for small hands, as part of their Elmer’s Early Learners Line. Designed with small kids in mind these new items are big enough that my 3 year old can handle them on her own, but not too big that they’re over powering for her small hands. The caps are easy to remove, glue is washable, and they still hold the same quality that regular Elmer’s glue has, but less messy and more preschooler friendly!

With our new glue sticks in hand we set out to create some new art work for the fridge and this time we had Thanksgiving in mind! I’m a huge fan of craft projects that are cheap, use items I already have around the house, and that my toddler will get a kick out of creating. Since she’s big on tracing her hands these days I knew that something that involved her hand print was a must do and I remember making hand print turkey’s when I was a kid. Not only are they cute, but it’s a great keepsake item for when the kids get older and you want to remember just how tiny their hands use to be.

What you’ll need:

• paper plate
• construction paper – we used red, brown, orange, and yellow.
• scissors
• pen or pencil
• elmer’s glue
• crayon
• optional – googly eyes, feathers, and pom pom ball

Once you have all your craft supplies in hand you’ll want to trace your little ones hands on the construction paper. I traced her hand and then stacked the paper and cut out the hand print. We used 8 hand prints.

Once you have all your hand prints cut out you’ll want to help your little one glue them to the back of the paper plate so they look like turkey feathers.

Once all of the hand prints are glued on, let the hand prints dry for a little while. Once dry you can assemble the turkey’s face! If you don’t have feathers, googly eyes, and pom pom’s on hand you can use a crayon or marker to draw on the face. I placed glue on the ends of the feathers and then wedged them between the paper plate and hand prints, this is optional. Then the toddler glued on the eyes, nose, and drew the turkey’s mouth.

Now you’re all done and you have an inexpensive, but cute craft for Thanksgiving!
