Keepsake crafts are my favorite things to make with my kids. To me they’re a fun way to keep track of the kids growing up and changing, but they’re also a great way celebrate the holidays. Two years ago we made foot print reindeers and they turned out so cute and made a great picture for the wall. This year I decided to do hand print ornaments with the kids and while these can get super messy with little hands involved, I’m not worried about the mess because I have Gain Original Fresh on my side to help tackle the mess they might make on their clothes.
Staying clean during the Holidays, or anytime of year, with small kids is hard. They’re messy and sometimes stinky, but I always stock up on my cleaning supplies at Costco. I can get bulk amounts of my favorite brands from Procter & Gamble for reasonable prices and I can stock up on other items, like snacks for the kids, while I’m there. Any craft project usually ends up in chaos. Paint on clothes, on the table, the floor, and of course all over the kids. That’s when those cleaning supplies really come in handy. Mr Clean Magic Eraser works great for the table (they also work great for getting crayon off the wall, which our 2 year old is famous for doing now), Gain works at getting the clothes clean, and Downy Unstopables keeps them smelling fresh. While I hate the messes that come with craft projects I love that the kids are having fun, being creative, and building memories that will hopefully last them a life time. Memories that they can share with their kids and projects where I’ll have a keepsake to hang on the tree every year to remember when they were little.
For this project you’ll need:
- Acrylic craft paint
- Paint Brushes
- Ornaments – either clear or colored
- Glitter or fake snow
- Egg carton for drying
- Clear acrylic gloss spray
These ornaments are very easy to make as long as you can get the kids to cooperate, which I know can be hard.
Christmas Tree Ornament:
- Paint child’s hand green
- Take child’s hand and press against ornament, Let dry
- Paint a black swirly line around the handprint aka tree, Let Dry
- With whatever colors you choose, paint small circles on the line, Let Dry
- With a sharpie write child’s name and year in small print on the ornament
- Spray with clear acrylic gloss spray to help preserve the paint
- If you used a clear ornament fill with a little fake snow or glitter for added effect
- Tie some ribbon to the ornament and hang on tree
For Snowman Ornaments:
- Paint child’s hand white
- Place the ornament in the palm of the child’s hand and have them hold it like a ball for a few seconds
- Have them open their hand up
- Remove ornament from child’s hand and place upside down in egg carton to dry.
- Once dry add snowman details and let dry
- With a sharpie write child’s name and year in small print on the ornament
- Spray with clear acrylic gloss spray to help preserve the paint
- If you used a clear ornament fill with a little fake snow or glitter for added effect
- Tie some ribbon to the ornament and hang on tree
What Holiday traditions are you starting with your family? And how do you keep your little ones clean?
