Shopkins Easter Basket Tutorial

Last year I showed y’all a really cute, DIY Frozen Easter Basket and it’s been really popular. Our daughter still loves Frozen, but this year she is more obsessed with Shopkins and all her friends are as well. Since I like to do theme Easter Baskets for the kids I whipped up this Shopkins Easter Basket that I know she’ll squeal over on Easter morning. The best part about this basket it that you can customize it to whatever your child’s preferences are. I picked out some of the main colors that I feel represent Shopkins like a dark pink, bright blue, bright green, and bright yellow, but if you wanted to go with more of a season 4 theme you could do pinks and white. Or maybe your little one isn’t obsessed with Shopkins, then you can do whichever colors you want and fill the basket with all kinds of goodies.

I usually wait until fairly last minute to shop for Easter items, but since Shopkins are so popular right now they can be hard to find, so I’ve been gathering items over the last few weeks. If you’re looking for Shopkins items I’ve found them at Target, Michael’s (yes the craft store), Walgreens (our local one has the blind baskets), Walmart, Toys R’ Us, and Amazon. My advice is to find out what days your store stocks them and go when they first open, if you can. I’ve found Target tends to add a few items every morning so I’ll go after morning drop off. When I went into Michael’s the other day they had a huge display of Shopkins items and even Season 4 packs. They’re a little more expensive, but if you grab a 40% off coupon you can use them on the shopkins.

This year I went with a metal basket that I found in the Easter section of Michael’s, the top portion is perfect for doing the tutu part and since my kids break wooden and plastic ones I’m thinking metal is the way to go. You’ll need rolls of matte tulle, which I found at Joann’s Fabric store (you can also get these at Walmart in the fabric section). I prefer the rolls since the width is perfect, but you can get bulk tulle and cut strips, it will just be more time consuming. For this basket I cut strips that were 17 inches long. I cut the strips while watching one of my shows because it does get boring and tedious. For this basket I used 100 strips of tulle. I like a fuller look so I double up on the each knot, that is also optional and if you want a less fuller look you can just use one strip per knot.

Tying the knots is easy, put the tulle on the bottom portion of the top ring, pull the back end over the top, and create a slip knot. Repeat until the whole basket is covered.

Next up – Fill the basket with Shopkins items your little one will love! I added a Shoppies doll that she’s been begging for for weeks (from Toy’s R’ Us online, they randomly come into stock so I set up for them to notify me when they had them again), Season 4 12 pack, Shopkins T-Shirt (Target), Coloring book and crayons (Michael’s), Water Bottle (Amazon), Card Game (Amazon), and Plushie (Amazon).
