Exploring Golden Gate National Park!

Sharing is caring!

Golde Gate Bridge San Francisco

Our time left in San Francisco is dwindling down and before we move back to Colorado I want our kids to explore the city that I grew up in. I want them to learn about San Francisco’s history, experience it’s richness, and explore it’s beautiful gems. So I took them on a trip through Golden Gate National Park where they could explore the naturistic side of San Francisco. Our kids are still a little young to get into the history of San Francisco, so for them visiting San Francisco National park is more about exploring the trails, parks, and lakes.

Crissy Field San Francisco

Golden Gate National park is gorgeous on a clear or foggy day (the weather in San Francisco is so unpredictable) and is loaded with so much richness. With history from the Native American’s, the gold rush, our military, and so much more to learn about. Golden Gate National Park is pretty big and since the kids can only handle a few hours out, before the younger ones are tired, we headed to the Presidio area of Golden Gate National park and started exploring.

Crissy Field Hike

We packed up some snacks for the kids, like energy bites made with Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter. We also packed up some fruit, cheeses, drinks, and some stale bread to feed the birds. Then we headed into the city for a few hours of adventurous fun. The kids has a blast walking around crissy field and then it was snack time. The energy bites were just what the kids needed to get their energy back and they’re the perfect size for small hands. After exploring Crissy Field we got in the car and drove around The Presidio and looks at all of the old buildings, took in the breathtaking views at the different outlooks, and explored some of the old bunkers.

The Presidio is such a gorgeous place in San Francisco, with so much history, and places to explore. There’s museums, trails, overlooks with gorgeous views of the bay area and gold gate bridge, beaches, and tons of history. If you’re not familiar with The Presidio in San Francisco it’s a former military base and there are still a lot of the former buildings still standing and Crissy field, located on the presidio, is a former airforce base. Dating back to 1776 the Presidio is home to bunkers, cannons, and so much more. If you’re a Disney lover it’s even home to the Disney Family museum.

San Francisco National Park has so many areas to explore and The Presidio is just one of them. If you’re in the mood for the beach, Baker Beach is close by and a great place to stop on a warm and sunny day. Whether you live in San Francisco or coming for a visit, a stop in Golden Gate National Park is a must. It’s always fun to learn about and explore more areas and since our goal is to spend more time making memories with our family, this was a fun place to add on our list!
